Traditional Indonesian Batik Making
On this four week Summer course in traditional Indonesian batik making, we will be focusing on the traditional method of batik tulis using canting, taught by Eliza.
In addition to her extensive textile printing and designing experience, Eliza also trained in traditional Indonesian batik making at Jakarta Institute for the Arts during her time back in Indonesia. Being part Indonesian herself, she is keen on spreading the knowledge and joy of traditional Indonesian batik to anyone who’s willing to learn it.
What will you learn?
• Introduction to traditional Indonesian batik patterns
• Designing your own batik patterns
• Batik-tulis making: drawing your patterns onto the fabric using canting and hot wax.
• Dip dyeing and finishing process
