Here we’re assuming you more or less know how to work your camera, that you can operate confidently in Manual mode, and we’re going to concentrate more on the picture-taking process, concentrating on applying the basics. It’s a mix of explanations of how your choices affect the look of the image, some practical exercises – going and taking pictures and going through the results with us, and looking further into and understanding contemporary photography.

Photography (arguably, along with the moving image) has been the art form of the last two decades. This course teaches the starting level nuts and bolts of being a photographer, with an emphasis on photography as art.

What our students have to say:
I would really recommend Sylwia and Simon’s beginners’ course to anyone either starting out for the first time, or wanting to improve their photographic skills. The course was informative and fun, and gave me the confidence to use an SLR camera for the first time and experiment with the settings.’ Wendy, now photography student at Edinburgh College.
