Beginners and Level 1 to Mosaic Making
In this eight-week course you will join artist Helen Miles and learn new mosaic making skills whilst refining your existing ones. During this course she will take you through two key mosaic making methods:
- Part I (first six weeks) of the course will cover basic cutting, sticking and laying techniques and students will make their own mosaic on mesh – a versatile method suitable for any size or shape of mosaic and for indoors or outdoors.
- Returning or Level 1 students will choose a personal project using the mesh method and get to work right away.
- All students will use unglazed ceramic tiles and vitreous glass tiles for Part I
- In Part II (last two weeks) all students will make a direct mosaic using the tile adhesive method which is suitable for making mosaics using found or recycled objects such as shells, pebbles, broken crockery etc.
Together the methods will give you lots of flexibility and confidence to tackle a variety of mosaics projects. All tools and mosaic supplies will be provided but students are welcome to bring in their own materials for Part II.
