Studio Access to Screen Printing Certificate

In this 8 week course students will experiment with a variety of techniques and wide ranging skills to develop their own personalised collection of fabric samples. Throughout the creative sessions students will be introduced to the working requirements of the print studio; preparing, using, cleaning and maintaining the equipment and tools. The certificate gained at the end of this course would allow you work independently in the print studio as a either a resident artist or open access member. Other skills students will obtain;

  • Selecting and preparing artwork for screen printing
  • Prep and exposure of screens
  • Mixing and preparation of inks and pigments
  • Fabric properties and their print mediums
  • Heat press with disperse transfer printing
  • Heat press with foil and flock
  • Heat press with photographic transfer printing
  • Using specialised binders: puff and metallic
  • Mixed media print techniques
  • Cleaning, storage and care of all equipment and tools

Price: £200

Materials: Printing inks and some materials are included in the course fee. If you wish to work within a particular colour palette, the tutor will advise where you can purchase your inks. Students should bring;

  • An apron or old clothes
  • Sketchbook/notebook/artwork
  • Pens/pencil/scissors/cutting blade
  • 19mm and 50mm masking tape
  • Old jars/storage pots with lids
  • Fabric (manmade and synthetic @ wk3)

Course Level: Introductory and those who are new to printmaking and textile design.
